Neighbourhood Watch Information

A message from Lindsay Baillie of Essex Police:

Dear All,

Please find below some documents relating to protecting yourself against scams and also the Trading Standards "Buy with Confidence" register. You can access the register directly to do a search on the type of service you are looking for on this link: www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk/ putting in your postcode.

Nottingham Knockers

Buy with Confidence

Unfortunately there appear to be no entries for traders very near to us in the register. I do think it would be useful for us to have such a register of local trusted businesses, so if you go onto this web page Essex Traders Guide you can recommend any traders who you would consider to be trustworthy and value for money. Essex Trading Standards will then contact the business and do some checks on them so that they can appear on the register in the future.

I hope these are of use to you.

Kind regards,
Lindsay Baillie

Telephone scams

Telephone scammers are thinking up ever more cunning ways to try to persuade you to give them your bank or credit card details. The Parish Council has been notified recently of four such schemes, the details of which are:

Compromised Bank Account Scam
BT Unpaid Phone Bill Scam
Fake Police Scam
BT Connect Scam

One way to protect yourself is to have Caller Display on your phone and not answer if you don't recognise the number. A genuine caller can always leave a message.

In any case, never give financial details over the phone or to a caller at the door.

Hard selling alarm company

Please be aware of people trying to make appointments over the telephone to sell burglar alarm systems. The Police recommend that you do not have any dealings with them. For details click here
