Due to the reducing number of members the Church Council has reluctantly decided that the time has come to cease regular Sunday worship and to delegate all responsibilities for the premises to the Bishop's Stortford Circuit (of which it is a part) with effect from 1st November 2010. It is a very sad but necessary decision as the size of the congregation - i.e. those able to attend - has reduced rather quickly.
In arriving at this decision, the Church Council and Bishop's Stortford Circuit have been mindful of the valuable contribution that the Church building plays in the village by providing space for community use. That is why the Bishop's Stortford Circuit is seeking to maintain the building in the short term while the longer term future can be carefully considered and hopefully secured.
So, whilst regular worship will come to an end, the Church building, its vestry and hall will continue to function as before. The Parish of the Icknield Way will continue to occupy the vestry as its Church office and the hall will continue to be used for activities such as Open Door, Pilates classes and so on. Nearer the time it will be possible for the retiring Church Council to inform people locally what arrangements are being made to manage the property.
The Church will remain a consecrated building so that occasional church services such as Harvest Festival and Christmas as well as weddings and funerals can continue to be conducted.
